Details
Personality
My personality tends toward being
pretty outgoing, but a lady who's a bit shy is okay with
me. People most often describe my temperament as caring
and warm. I tell a joke once in a while, and oh yes, I can
be lots of fun... Regarding punctuality, I'm usually on
time.
First contact
After an initial email, I'd like to
exchange photos. When that's out of the way, we would talk
on the phone a bit, before meeting, if you agree.
For the first time
in person, we might want to just keep it casual -- a simple
coffeehouse, for a tea or coffee. I know a great one here
in Brentwood.
Mornings and Evenings
As a bachelor, my mornings have been
pretty quiet. When it's warm enough, I like to have breakfast
in my garden. Evenings, I often enjoy meeting friends, or
going out to the movies.
Sports
Weekends, I love to go mountain biking in the afternoon.
One day I'd like to go back to tennis and golf, when time
permits. For now, my mountain biking is a passion.
I enjoy going up to resorts in the mountains, especially
Sun Valley or Vail, for skiing in winter. Every summer I try
to go two, even three times, for mountain biking, river rafting,
hiking, horseback riding, ice shows and symphonies under the
stars at Sun Valley... Fly fishing and golf are on my to-do
list!
When at
the seashore in summer, at the Hamptons or in South of France,
I enjoy occasional sailing, jetskiing, or water skiing.
I'd love my partner to be moderately athletic,
so that here and there we could share some outdoor activities
together.
I like staying in fair shape, and the gym is a
part of the week I enjoy. I like the sense of community
there. One of these days, I'd like to start yoga classes
again.
I'm more supportive than competetive, and hope
to find the same balance in my life partner. I like going
at my own pace -- no rush to get there. Let's stop and smell
the roses along our way.
Love
Keeping our love strong and romantic is important
to me. I'd like to surprise my lady with candlelit dinners,
accompanied by a good wine and soft music.
I love being intimate and communicating. I'll relish
the moments with a sparkle in our eyes and loving words.
A mutual honoring and respect is important to nurture
and maintain. Pampering each other is a great path to stay
on.
Family life
is a big priority
I'll make spending time with my partner
and children a big priority, and am seeking a lady who will
do the same. I'm ready to have children soon, maybe even
in the next year or so!
My past
I've been very happy in the past to be monogamous,
in a committed relationship. I enjoy dedicating myself to
one woman.
In my early 30's, I married and then divorced, after two
years of marriage. We were too young. Luckily, we chose
not to have children.
I've been single for a few years now,
and am ready to fall in love and marry again. This time,
I want kids -- ideally, two or more!
Clubs and dancing
On special occasions and here and there during
vacations, I enjoy going to clubs and dancing. We're only
talking a few times a year, not every weekend! Favorite
clubs? Jimmyz in Monte Carlo comes to mind. And
La Cave du Roi in St. Tropez, in summmer -- well,
that's an even bigger party. That calls to mind lazy days
on the beaches of St Tropez and Marbella.
In London, my favorite clubs used to be Annabel's and Tramps,
and in Paris, Castel's, Regine's or L'Elephant.
NYC has Au Bar and plenty more.
Locally in Los Angeles, no club compares to these. So where
I live, I'm not too big on going out to clubs. Clubbing's
more for special occasions and vacations, and these days,
that suits me just fine.

Education and career
After graduating from Hotchkiss School, I majored
in English at UC Berkeley, and later in film at UCLA, and
then USC. In my 20's, I pursued filmmaking and then acting.
My documentary Berkeley was presented at the Cannes
Film Festival, and won an award.
Director Robert Altman unexpectedly
offered me an acting role in one of his films. There followed
several supporting roles in films and TV, and I starred
in one feature film, as Mandroid, a half-man, half-machine,
in the action-adventure, sci-fi movie Eliminators.
In 1986, I changed course, and turned
to my smokefree advocacy career. My
bio tells that story in more detail.
In 1989, Little, Brown published a
book I co-authored, The
Gilded Leaf, the biography of my family, over three
generations. The last two chapters tell my story.
Also in 1989, I founded The
Foundation for a Smokefree America. We are presently
building the Foundation's board and endowment.
In 1992, I founded the website Tobaccofree.org.
There followed Tobaccofree.com
for quitting smoking, and Notobacco.org,
for teens. The focus is on teen tobacco prevention and smoking
cessation.
A new educational video of a live
motivational talk I gave in November, 1999 to 1,000 9th
graders, The
Truth About Tobacco, has to date been purchased
by 4,000 high schools, middle schools and health departments.
We estimate it will be seen by well over 1 million children
and teens.
Another passion I have is community. I have two
projects which I believe would help build and restore a
sense of community at the local level. While these are near
to my heart, for now I will keep these on the back burner,
with an eye to developing these projects one day in the
future.
I take some delight in a strong feeling that the
most rewarding years of my life are yet to come.
Languages
I speak fairly fluent French, and
am just conversational in German and Spanish.
I've spent time in Europe, in part
because my first wife was German. It was important to me
to speak languages, and I have a gift for learning them.
Some of my European friends now think
of me as part-European. They sense I relate to and understand
their culture and mentality. I love it there, and could
even live part time in Europe, or spend a few weeks a year
there.
Travel
To me it's important to set some time aside for
romantic vacations together. Some might be a just a long
weekend, others for three weeks to a month. I hope my life
partner will join me in wanting to take some time off for
this.
While traveling, I've most enjoyed spending time
with new and old friends. I like Switzerland, the South
of France, Germany, Italy, the Greek Islands, the Hamptons,
New York City, Vail and Sun Valley...any suggestions?
Friends
It's great to have the comfort and support of
a small circle of close friends. I feel it's not good to
isolate, as so many couples do. Having good friends is quite
important to me.
Keeping our
balance
In a relationship, I feel it's vital to be a good
listener. I believe that love and love making have the potential
to just keep getting better and better.
Keeping a balance of mutual respect and admiration
for one another will help keep our love strong.
Setting
her free
I'm not too fixed in my ways, and am wise enough
to know that a life together is a collaboration. It's important
to honor -- and also pamper -- each other.
I want her to be independent and feel
in charge of her own life. I'd like her to feel empowered,
and watch her soar to heights she only dreamed of. My hope
is that we will soar together. |
